Day 1: Rabat – Volubilis – Meknes – Chefchaouen (The Imperial to the Blue City)

Depart Rabat in the morning and drive through fertile agricultural plains to the Roman city of Volubilis. Walk among well-preserved mosaics, triumphal arches, and olive presses while your guide shares its history. Continue to Meknes, the 17th-century imperial capital, for a short visit to Bab Mansour, the vast Lahdim Square, and perhaps the Moulay Ismail Mausoleum.

After lunch, the landscape shifts to the rugged foothills of the Rif Mountains. Arrive in Chefchaouen by late afternoon. The medina’s blue-and-white streets, tucked against mountain peaks, offer a serene introduction to northern Morocco. Evening at leisure.

Day 2: Chefchaouen – Fes (The Blue Pearl to the Spiritual Capital)

Spend the morning soaking up Chefchaouen’s calm. Photograph the famous blue stairs, visit the kasbah museum, or simply sip mint tea in Plaza Uta el-Hammam. By mid-morning, depart south through a landscape of olive groves and rolling hills towards Fes.

Arrive in Fes in the afternoon. The remainder of the day is yours: perhaps a first orientation walk into the medina, or relax at your riad. Your driver can recommend a local guide for the next morning should you wish to explore Fes in depth (optional, not included).

Day 3: Fes – Ifrane – Azrou – Midelt – Ziz Valley – Merzouga (Atlas Gateway to the Dunes)

Leave Fes early for the longest but most scenically rewarding day. Climb into the Middle Atlas, stopping at Ifrane (Morocco’s alpine-style town) and the cedar forests near Azrou, where Barbary macaques often forage by the road. Continue to Midelt for lunch, then trace the Ziz River’s oasis.

At the Ziz Valley viewpoint, palm groves stretch as far as the eye can see. By late afternoon you’ll reach Merzouga and the edge of Erg Chebbi. Swap your vehicle for a camel and trek into the dunes as the sun sets. Arrive at your private luxury desert camp, where dinner, music, and a sky thick with stars await.

Day 4: Full-Day Merzouga & Erg Chebbi Sahara Experience

This is your day to truly feel the Sahara. Wake early for sunrise over the dunes, then return to the camp for breakfast. The rest of the day unfolds at a slower pace: board a 4×4 to circle the massive Erg Chebbi dune field. Visit the village of Khamlia, where descendants of sub-Saharan enslaved people preserve Gnawa music traditions – a powerful, rhythmic performance you’ll experience in person.

Stop at a nomadic family’s tent for tea, understand desert herb knowledge, and try sandboarding on a suitable dune (boards provided). After a local lunch (optional), the afternoon is free to rest, photograph the shifting sands, or explore Merzouga’s oasis. A second sunset can be watched from the dunes before settling in.

Day 5: Merzouga – Rissani – Todra Gorge – Dades Valley (Desert Edge to Canyon Country)

After breakfast, a short drive takes you to Rissani, the ancient Tafilalt capital and starting point of trans-Saharan caravans. Visit its traditional souk (especially lively on market days) and the Moulay Ali Cherif Mausoleum. Then the road climbs into rugged pre-Saharan terrain.

Reach Todra Gorge, where limestone walls rise 300 metres above a crystal-clear river. Walk between them, feel the cool microclimate, and watch climbers on the rock faces. Afterwards, continue through the Dades Valley, stopping at the “monkey fingers” rock formations and the famous serpentine road viewpoint.

Overnight: Comfortable hotel or guesthouse in Dades Valley, with views of the rock formations.

Day 6: Dades Valley – Ouarzazate – Aït Ben Haddou – Tizi n’Tichka – Marrakech (Kasbahs to the Red City)

Depart after breakfast for Ouarzazate, a film-industry hub. You may pass the Atlas Film Studios (optional visit) and the Taourirt Kasbah. Soon arrive at the UNESCO site Aït Ben Haddou, a stunning fortified village that has starred in Gladiator and Game of Thrones. Walk up through the narrow lanes to the granary for panoramic views.

From here, the route climbs over the High Atlas via Tizi n’Tichka pass (2,260 m). Rugged peaks, terraced fields, and Berber villages accompany your drive. Descend into the Marrakech plain by early evening, where your private 6-day journey concludes.
