Itinerary:12 Days Tour from Casablanca To Desert
Day 1: Casablanca – Rabat – Meknes
Your journey begins with a transfer from your hotel to visit the impressive Hassan II Mosque in Casablanca. From there, we drive to Rabat, the capital of Morocco, to explore the Royal Palace, the ruins of Chellah, the Mohammed V Mausoleum, and the Hassan Tower. After sightseeing, we continue to Meknes for dinner at a local restaurant with views of the square opposite Bab el Mansour gate, followed by an overnight stay at a hotel in Meknes.
Day 2: Meknes – Volubilis – Fes
After breakfast, we explore Meknes, visiting the main square, Bab el Mansour gate, the Royal Granaries, and the city ramparts. Then we travel to Fes, stopping at the ancient Roman ruins of Volubilis and the Moulay Idriss mausoleum, an important pilgrimage site where Morocco’s first dynasty founder is buried. We continue to Fes for an overnight stay.
Day 3: Fes – Guided City Tour
Today we explore the historic city of Fes, winding through its narrow alleys and streets. Highlights include the Royal Palace gate, the first Mellah (Jewish quarter) in Morocco, Al Qaraouine University, the Tanneries, Attarine Museum, and Moulay Idriss mausoleum. After lunch, we visit local cooperatives and enjoy panoramic views over the entire Medina before returning to your Riad.
Day 4: Fes – Ifrane – Azrou – Midelt – Merzouga
We drive to Azrou to explore the cedar forest, home to Berber apes. Continuing through Midelt and the Ziz Valley, we make a stop in Erfoud for lunch or refreshments before reaching Rissani and then Merzouga. Overnight is at a local hotel near the desert.
Day 5: Merzouga – Khamlia – Rissani – Erg Chebbi
Explore the Sahara around Erg Chebbi dunes, visiting the black village of Khamlia to enjoy Gnawa music. Lunch is a traditional Berber Pizza in Rissani. In the late afternoon, enjoy a camel ride across the dunes to reach your desert camp. Evening activities include a Tagine dinner, local mint tea, Berber music, and stargazing under the desert sky.
Day 6: Merzouga – Todra Gorge – Dades Gorge
Start early to watch the sunrise over the dunes, then freshen up at a local hotel and have breakfast. Travel through Rissani and Tinghir to Todra Gorge, Morocco’s highest and narrowest gorge. After lunch, continue through Dades Valley, admiring the “Monkey Toes” rock formations. Overnight in the Dades Valley.
Day 7: Dades Gorge – Ouarzazate – Ait Ben Haddou – Marrakesh
Drive along the path of a thousand Kasbahs, stopping at Kalaat Mgouna in the Valley of Roses. Continue to the UNESCO World Heritage site of Ait Ben Haddou, famous for films like Lawrence of Arabia and Gladiator, as well as the HBO series Game of Thrones. Cross the Tizi-n-Tichka mountain pass to Marrakesh for an overnight stay.
Day 8 & 9: Marrakesh Guided Tour
Explore Marrakesh with a guided tour of its main attractions, including Jamma el Fna square, Koutoubia mosque, souks, palaces, and museums. Also visit Gueliz, the Menara Gardens, and Majorelle Gardens.
Day 10 & 11: Marrakesh – Essaouira
